Welcome to Monte Carlo Liquors & Steak House, a hidden gem nestled in the vibrant heart of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Located at 3916 Central Ave SW, this unique establishment invites you to embark on a culinary adventure that merges the charm of a local steakhouse with the allure of a well-stocked liquor store. If you’re looking for a dining experience where the food reigns supreme, Monte Carlo is the place to be.
Walking past the shelves filled with fine spirits, you find yourself transported to a quaint dining space, rich in character and warmth. The restaurant may be unassuming—often described as a "hole in the wall"—but it is precisely this authenticity that fosters a welcoming atmosphere, perfect for enjoying hearty meals with friends and family. The owner often mingles with guests, adding a personal touch that enhances your dining experience.
The menu features a tantalizing selection of dishes, prominently showcasing their steaks, which have garnered rave reviews. As L B noted, the ribeye steak, grilled to perfection and bursting with rich, smoky flavor, is a must-try. Whether you prefer your meat cooked medium-rare or well-done, you can expect it to be tender, juicy, and charred to perfection on their charcoal grill.
But don't overlook the iconic green chili cheeseburger, which Joe Rogo hails as perhaps the best in town. It embodies the spirit of New Mexican cuisine with its delightful blend of flavors. And for those looking to explore beyond beef, there are Greek influences peppered throughout the menu, offering a delightful variety that caters to diverse palates.
The rich flavors of the dishes are complemented by the no-frills approach to dining. Service is friendly and attentive, as attested by Luther Soules IV, who appreciated the crisp salads and the nostalgic feel of the restaurant. You won't find split checks or reservations here. Instead, embrace the casual atmosphere, where the focus is solely on enjoying excellent food without unnecessary pretension.
As you savor every bite, you’ll understand why locals and visitors alike cherish Monte Carlo Liquors & Steak House. It's more than just a meal; it’s a celebration of culinary simplicity and community spirit. So, make your way over to Monte Carlo Liquors & Steak House, where every dish tells a story, and every visit leaves you yearning for more.

I got the ribeye steak for 25 which was the 8 oz. It was cooked to perfection, so tasty. You could really taste the charcoal grill. I would absolutely have it again. Service was absolutely wonderful. I wish I lived in the area so I can come here more often.
Always the highlight of any visit to Albuquerque. Probably the best green chili cheeseburger in town. I also recommend some of the Greek influence items on the menu.
If you are familiar with the lore of the Monte Carlo steakhouse, you probably don't need my review. It's a hole in the wall locale, where you walk through the liquor store to get to the restaurant. Originally made popular for their burger, they have become very well known for their steaks. The atmosphere is what one should expect for such a hole in the wall location. They do not split checks and you should expect to wait 40 minutes during an average night. They do not take reservations. If you're expecting a black tie steakhouse, you're in the wrong place. Make no mistake, you're here for the food. All said, the food was delicious, the atmosphere was as expected and the owner spent some time chatting with us, which is always nice.
I wanted to try out this Steakhouse long before the days that it ended up on the Food Network shows. It is probably the epitome of a hole in the wall Steakhouse. Excellent steaks, no fuss sides and a very friendly dining staff. You also can't bet the idea that the eclectic decor is authentic and not something fabricated for a chain restaurant. I tried the prime rib special but actually liked the wife's ribeye steak better!
To those who say this place appears unassuming or outdated, you’re wrong. The steaks are perfect, the salads are cold, flavorful, and crisp, and the service and atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable. There’s a sense of nostalgia eating here. I eat at a lot of overproduced restaurants in DFW, and I would return to this place before a lot of them. Ask for Stephanie, she was a great server and host
Used to enjoy the drive through liquors back in the dayz..cold 40's of Old E! Go eat and chill. Good food and service. Word
We were so excited to go here for our first time. We have been wanting to go for years. It was so enjoyable. The atmosphere is awesome. Very rustic, dark, quaint, and so nostalgic. The service was great. We had the cutest and sweetest waitress. Her name was Faith. My husband and I shared a steak meal. The steak was cooked to perfection. Everything was wonderful. The salad was fresh, and in a wooden bowl, he had delicious housemade blue cheese dressing. Oh, how, we love those homemade fresh cut french fries. We want to go back again. The only letdown was the iced tea. We like fresh brewed iced tea and not one from the machine. The tea wasn't good at all.
This is a great place to grab a burger or a steak. I’ve been here several times and food is consistently good. The service is always outstanding too. Really enjoy the cheeseburger with green chili. The restaurant also has a cool retro atmosphere. Highly recommend!
